About
We are a group of licensed, working tattooers in the state of Oregon dedicated to making more effective regulations through legislation and advocacy.
During COVID we have pivoted to be a resource for tattooers and students in Oregon. We release newsletters, and post them to the archives in our blog section. To subscribe, input your email in the pop-up window.
We hope to accomplish easier communication through our website, and would love to get as much feedback from tattooers in Oregon as possible. We would love for information to be accessible to empower us all.
While initially our goal was to address the ‘issue’ of tattoo schools, we now have more information and understand that there is no way to override the legal requirements of Oregon’s trade license laws, which states that every license issued by the state requires a trade school to obtain said license. Tattoo schools are here to stay, so the real need is to have them be able to better prepare students for the job, to make sure they comprehend all health and sanitation standards and to create a sustainable field without over saturation. This requires further participation and making sure the laws work in our favor, and showing up to not only OHLA meetings but Higher Education Coordinating Commission meetings as well, since they are two separate entities that do not communicate yet each hold vital power in how these schools operate. Schools also provide much needed opportunities to enter the tattoo industry for BIPOC and other marginalized groups which is valuable to a craft prone to gate-keeping practices. In the future we hope to be able to provide small mentorship opportunities for students coming from Oregon tattoo schools, and host in-person workshops/CEU classes again after COVID is over.
Our meetings are not open to the public, they are reserved for licensed tattooers in the state of Oregon only. We are all operating on good faith for the greater good. If we feel a person conducts themselves at a meeting in a manner that is disrespectful to others, they will not be invited back.
